Heading for Home: Thursday July 26, 2012 Post Game GAB

This way to L.A.
Look closely. See it?
These colors glittered high above Dodger Stadium last Wednesday, July 18. As I snapped the picture, I didn't know what it was. I still don't. So I made something up.
It is the way home.

We won that day. We beat the Phillies in 12 innings. I cried after Matt Kemp hit a walk off home run. Of course he hit it after I hollered to him from my Reserved section seats something about having to get home and feed my dogs so he needs to hurry up and DO something! (You're welcome.)
The Dodgers had a day off after that game, then went on to New York to sweep the Mets. They subsequently beat the Cardinals in the first game of the series, before losing the series.
The Dodgers need to get home. Home to California.  Home to California where they will beat the Giants (I am sure of it).
To be sure, the Dodgers' offense played well... in the 5th inning when they scored all 4 of their runs. RBIs from Rivera and Cruz contributed. And Ramirez even gets his first stolen base as a Dodger later in the game. This leads nowhere since with two outs Rivera bunts, but still... nice steal.  This increases the attractiveness of Ramirez' on-base percentage of course, but how anti-climatic must it feel after having just joined the boys in blue 2 days ago.
Ramirez remarked in an interview shortly after the trade was complete that he had trouble sleeping before he flew out to join the Dodgers mid-road-trip because he knew he would not be waking up in "Miami."
Maybe he should have used a Dodger stadium blanket.

Home is where you hang your hat I suppose, whether it's a batting helmet or a fedora.
But I will say this, Rivera adds something to our team. I only hope he likes his new home.
Just like Matt Kemp hopes L.A. fans (the BEST fans ever btw) don't give up hope.

Ever been on such a high you thought you could touch the rainbow? Then WHAM! You're knocked flat. Remember how that felt? And if only there was someone on your side, you felt you could get through it. Maybe it was a terrible breakup after you thought he was "the-one."  Or maybe your best friend sprung it on you that she or he was moving away- out of reach where only phones dared to roam. Or maybe you were called into the boss' office when you thought you were up for a promotion... only to learn you were being let go.
A loss is hard no matter what. But a huge 3 losses after 5 awesome wins is heart wrenching. And you just want someone on your side.

But when is it too late? When does it become out of style to hope?
Giants didn't play today. Whew.
At best, after our Boys leave San Fran we can be tied for first. I keep telling myself there's plenty of ball to play.

And I am right. I usually am. And there's still hope. It is not too late. I refuse to discuss the "magic number" in July. The trade deadline is still a little out and there is always hope.
Always.
Hope should never become passe.
Just like strong independent women. Just like good manners and saying thank you and holding the door open for strangers. Just like common sense and red peep-toe heels. And lopsided smiles. And puppies' and kittens' cuteness. And chivalry. The Dodgers need their fans' support just like we need the support of our friends when we've been knocked around a little. We need them there to remind us how good we truly are. Fans and friends give us the hope that there is still something out there... a win, love, something better...
We all need our friends and fans... and the hope to find our way home.
