8/22/12 Pre Game GAB: Don't Over-think It

We were up half a game going into this home stand. The momentum and support... it was all there. But somewhere in the back of our minds we could feel that one nagging doubt creeping up slowly... (pst...! We haven't been doing so well at home!) So then we start to get nervous. We start to act.... daffy. We start to plan things out. The fans AND the players...scenarios play out in our imaginations... Wouldn't it be great if Andre Ethier hit a walk-off home run and I was there to see it? Wouldn't it be great if the Dodgers just splattered the Giants 14-0?... All these exciting thoughts are running rampant through our brains. And think about it from the players perspective: there is SOOO much at stake here... bragging rights to first place in the west after having such an amazing start to the season...the fans are counting you... your teammates are counting on you,... and YOU want to be the big HERO of the game.... (Dear Girls, Guys love to play the hero... but we already knew that....)

GIRL TALK: We do that too. It's human nature to over think things sometimes when we are nervous. Nerves can make a date exciting or traumatic. Guys go through it too. They're human. They get nervous if it's a girl they really like. When girls get nervous, we say stupid things, twirl our hair and act stoopid and giddy (misspell on purpose... because that is what nerves do to us), we lose focus... We become so worried about the end result and we want to win so badly (ie: impress our date so much), that we just forget to breathe and enjoy the game. Easier said than done but here is the solution: Get outa your head before you go outa your mind. Stop over thinking things. Relax. Enjoy the moment. Have fun with it again. Even if the date (or the ... "after" date) is going weird and not according to plan, just go with it.

Stop planning, and for Pete's sake stop trying to fix it while it's going ... weird. The more you can just get out of your head, the easier it becomes. Dogs and Improv Players are really good at this. Watch them. They stay in the moment. They focus. They have fun. They don't get stuck planning it all out. They just... breathe. C'mon Dodgers.. just... breathe....

Game time tonight 7:10. I'll be in my usual section. A friend had an extra ticket...I love how my friends know me so well.... when they hear the words "Bruce Springsteen" (The BOSS!)
or "Dodgers" and they immediately think KIM!  See? They don't have to think about it very hard... it just happens...it just works....Breathe.... See you at the Ravine... GO BLUE!
