Best Birthday Ever!

Girls, I have almost no words for what happened today, except to tell it like it happened. There I was, at Dodger Stadium, for Opening Day, today. AND it's my 42nd birthday today.
I know, it's extremely fitting, the April Fools thing AND Opening Day on MY birthday. I cried when Sandy Koufax came out to throw the first ceremonial pitch. (New Girls: Sandy is an icon. Please Google him. He pitched a perfect game once before I was born. If I write any more about him right now I will start crying all over again- the man is a legend. And he was there today.) NOW I can say I have seen Sandy Koufax pitch. Then the unmistakable, unshakable happened: after 8 scoreless innings of a beautiful Pitchers' duel, Clayton Kershaw broke that scoreless tie with his first ever career home run. It was a solo home run, right over the center field wall. New Girls, Pitchers aren't known for their batting prowess.  They focus on throwing and not hitting the ball. Now add to the fact that Kershaw just scored the only run at that point, now we were on our way to shutting out the Giants, the World Series Champs of 2012....AND Kershaw pitched a complete game. New Girls: He pitched all nine innings. THAT is HUGE for an Opening Day. Often Pitchers are not "strong" enough to handle all nine innings on the first day of the season. But when I looked over at the bullpen, there was nothing happening. No one was getting ready. Dear Don Mattingly, THANK YOU for letting us witness one of the loveliest games we will ever see. Kershaw was brilliant. He needed to finish that game. Yes, yes, it helped that the Giants did NOT play up-to-par. But aside from that, ....Kershaw was brilliant. My mascara ran as I cried like a little girl.  (Cover Girl is usually great, but today's tears...nothing could save it.)

There are no metaphors for any of it. It simply was THE BEST Opening Day I had ever been to. And it was certainly the best Birthday.
