Once upon a time there was a second baseman named Mark Ellis, and HE HIT HIS 100th AND 101st career home runs both on the same night!
*By the way, I am really likin' this mural I found... a blue castle- perfect!

How awesome is it to be Mark Ellis right now? Pretty awesome I'd say. Congrats to our #14... well done. To top it off, Dodgers win! That's two in a row to snap that stupid six game losing streak. Ugh. (Seeee??? A day off does a little good....) Belesario gets the win. Good for him! I really like that guy. Kershaw struggled with his pitch count, especially with getting third outs. Way too many pitches were thrown. Is it just my imagination or has that been happening lately? I love Kershaw- don't get me wrong, but lately he seems a bit off. Not quite himself on the mound. It's just a feeling I'm basing this opinion off of. A lot of times you'll hear people, fans, say: "It's a game of numbers." I am soooo opposed to that theory. Yes, yes, you can tell a lot about a Player by their stats: RBI, ERA, QS, etc... but what about when they do certain things? What are their tendencies? That's what I'm talking about. Does their batting average tend to go down when they get inside their head too much? Do they bring it up a bit more if they bat sixth instead of third? Girls: When do you start to flip your hair too much and giggle like an idiot? (Couldn't resist thinking of Charlie Brown and how flustered he always got... but once upon a time, he got to be the cool guy... )
Ladies, when do you start to get flustered? Or... when are you right on your mark- what shoes do you wear, how do you do your hair.... That sort of thing. Sometimes the butterflies can work to our advantage, sometimes not so much. Baseball is a very superstitious sport. Get used to it. So whatever is making Kershaw throw too many extra pitches, I hope it goes away. He's amazing, and Dodgers need him at his best. NEW GIRLS: Trust me, when Kershaw is on it, he is ON IT. When he brings his best stuff to the mound, no one gets past him. He was fine tonight, but he just threw too many. I do think he'll be fine, though. I think this is just one of those phases where he's over thinking it and ends up throwing a few too many. (New Girls: We don't want a Pitcher throwing too many pitches in general- even if the end result is that we win. No need to tire the guy out, right?) Ok, GIRL TALK and NEW GIRLS: Let's go back to Mark Ellis for a moment: Think of that one really cool guy you just think is way cool... and he just got even more cool.... (aww... Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman...)
Ellis had an amazing night. Tonight, he was the guy who stood out in the crowd above all the other guys. I think his stuff tonight helped motivate the others as well. I like to compare it to this kind of thing because sometimes it's easier for Girls to think in these terms and put it into perspective. We gotta relate it to something we know sometimes. Guys, if you're reading this and your Girlfriend can't make the connection to baseball, that's what this is about. Girls, imagine your guy getting the promotion or the raise. Celebrate it with him! Trust me, when the Dodgers win in general, I'm already doin' the happy dance. Wish I was kidding. Or if it makes it easier to relate it to something else, think of the two home runs as a Double Stuffed Oreo. Not gonna lie, definitely a fave. And then Dodgers win? Ok, time to maybe break into the whole pack of Oreos. What Girl doesn't like Oreos, right?

And truthfully, I actually relate it the other way around: the pack of Double Stuff Oreos is like two home runs by Mark Ellis in one game. THIS is why I have him on my Fantasy Baseball Team. (p.s. I also have Belesario and Kershaw on my Team as well... of course) Nice job, #14! GO Blue! (Now to go find the Oreos....)
