In the words of Hans Solo: "That's Great Kid! Don't Get Cocky!"

A six run winning streak broken by a 16-1 loss to the Phillies, the worst loss since the Dodgers have been playing in L.A. {grumble grumble} Watching the Phillies pound the Dodgers so badly just became almost laughable after awhile. Almost. Not quite but almost. Girl Talk: It's like when you have completely lost control of everything and you don't know whether to laugh or cry. (I love this picture of Ginger Rogers.... Just sums it up for me-)
Whether it's about a Guy or work or your Friends... and everything has spiraled out of control and you have the worst day ever: your hair won't behave, the perfect shoes that once seemed to match everything  now match nothing, you're out of water proof mascara and all you have left is the emergency spare one someone put in your Christmas stocking seven months ago, your husband or boyfriend has lost his mind and won't come out of his cave, and to top it off a red sock got thrown in with the whites. Yeah, THAT kind of day. (What are you doing with red socks anyway??) Let's look at what went wrong: Everything. Okay, now with that out of the way, here's my concern: after a six game winning streak that kept us in last place even with other teams in the West losing, we were only bound to let it go to our heads. Who are we kidding? Let's be honest: they got cocky. (Remember that scene when Hans Solo told Luke: "That's great kid! Don't get cocky!" Even Han Solo recognized the importance of staying focused!)

Look, a loss here and there, fine. BUT 16-1??! THAT'S ridiculous. Again, we got cocky. Being over confident leaves us vulnerable to slacking and getting careless, maybe even a little lazy. And that's where and why everything went wrong. The Players were unfocused and so sure of their ability to win, I dare say they almost expected to win. Dear Boys: You are not entitled to anything in this world. You must earn it. MORE GIRL TALK: Haven't we often heard that Guys want to be the pursuer? Haven't we often been told that they want to feel as if they earned something, and that if it starts to come too easily they start to take it for granted? Now, I'm no psychologist, but that's what I was picking up here last night. That they were starting to take the winning for granted. They now know they CAN win so they expected to. Now, I'm NOT so old fashioned as to believe in the old cliche: "Why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free?" kind of deal. (Dear Ladies: YOU SHOULD want to test drive a car before buying it!)  BUT I am old fashioned enough to believe that Guys DO appreciate something they have worked for... and so do Ladies. In my opinion, Guys should work to capture our attention, and Girls should work to keep it... Both have to work at a relationship... it's a Team effort. AH YES! A Team Effort! Which brings this whole thing back to baseball: Dear Dodgers: Its a TEAM EFFORT. Don't get lazy. THAT was a HUGE wake up call and smack to the egos last night. 16-1. Geesh! But sometimes we need that proverbial smack-upside-the-head. It can help us refocus IF we let it. First, shake it off. Next, laugh about it over coffee and a morning workout. (Although after 16-1 you may have to go for the string stuff at Starbucks....just saying-)
And finally, get out there and beat the Phillies tonight. You're gonna have to, because when you fall off a horse you absolutely have to get right back on. (I am just full of cliches today, aren't I??) (Of course, Lucy had trouble just getting on the horse....LOVE that show!)
Sorry- but I know the Dodgers can do it. They were doing it for six games in a row. Now that we know what the  problem is thanks to the Baseball-and- Girl-World-According- to-Kim (you're welcome),.... So go out there and fix it. I could be wrong, but it is my understanding Skip Schumaker doesn't really wanna pitch (although he will if called upon- I really like that guy! Totally a Team Player!) So again, shake it off, have a good laugh, turn on the music on the locker room and get going. Have a great Saturday Everyone! GO BLUE!
