Now THAT'S the way to do it!
Look, in spite of the Dodgers' rocky start lately ....one might say it's been a rocky road thus far...(no pun intended since they beat the Rockies today), they were bound to start bounding back, right?
OH MY GOODNESS! Rocky road ice cream- NOW I want that!
Kershaw showed 'em who's boss today. And Juan Uribe with his 3-run home run! Yes sir! The look on Dorothy Dandridge's face was similar to mine when that home run was smacked... although I defer to Dorothy- she is much more glam and stunning.
Look here, I'm trendy and modern and independent in many ways, and in other ways I can lean towards being old fashioned. I listened to the game on the radio. L.A. 570 AM. Its how I learned to follow the games when I was a little girl (I'm still little...5 feet zero inches doesn't tower over much).
Remember how small Dorothy seemed and felt when she approached the Emerald City and all of its lavish glory adorned with towers?
But I digress... look the point is in being old fashioned sometimes, I think I can appreciate the nuances that come from listening to the game over the radio.
Now this looks like Grandpa's radio!
Hearing it on the crackly am band, I feel like I am there at every moment. I can hear the fans more clearly actually. Even though it is still Spring Training, there were plenty of hollers out there. I love that! So when the crack of the bat signaled Uribe's homer to score three...YAY! Not gonna lie... there a little happy dance goin' on in the living room here in Los Angeles. (Ah, Ginger and Fred... irreplaceable...unforgettable...but I dance alone like no one is watching...goodness I HOPE no one was watching!)
Final score was 6-1. Dodgers win. I won't tire of saying that. Ever. See here, I was never a fan of Jim Tracy. New Girls: Tracy is the former manager of most recently the Rockies and prior to that our Dodgers... Ok, never did care for his style. That said, when he resigned from the Rockies last year, I thought to myself: "Uh-oh,...wonder who they'll bring to the helm...might be someone good for a change." Turns out Walt Weiss was indeed a decent choice. So with that, I was curious to see how today would go. Turns out, the Rockies are still the Rockies. With or without Jim Tracy.
Who's up for a vacay? Colorado Rockies...one of America's finest treasures....
Ok, so we pounded them in the fifth with six runs (heeheehee). And with this win today under Kershaw's belt, it just may afford him the confidence he needs to move forward as we march towards April 1st, Opening Day. Which by the way happens to be MY birthday. Fitting, ain't it? Look what I found at
jenniferstonebarger.blogspot.com !! Must have!
Going into today, Kershaw had accumulated a 9.00 ERA (New Girls: ERA is Earned Run Average...basically the average amount of runs a pitcher gives up... there's some math involved but I don't want to bore you, and as I was a Theatre Arts major, math hurts my head. So just go with me on this...a Pitcher wants a low ERA...the lower the number, the better). Ok, where was I... ah yes, I used to cringe whenever we would lose to the Rockies, especially when Jim Tracy was managing. It's embarrassing losing to a Team you should be able to beat handily. That said, we are back in business. I got a good feeling about this. GIRL TALK: Here's the parallel: it's one of those days when things just go your way, just like they were supposed to...you were a little early to work perhaps, your boss praised you in front of colleagues, got a lovely flirty text from the guy you could be crushing on, went home, the dog greeted you with a wagging tail (always a plus in my book!) and then you followed up with a glass of wine,... and the guy even called to just say hi. Nice, right?
Lipstick stayed on all day, (Bath and Body Works still my fave lip gloss...true story)... mascara didn't run, manicure holding up... you know, the little things that matter to a girl. When things go as planned. That's what today was. And then tomorrow is a whole new day. And we'll do this again, right? And who knows... maybe, just maybe that cute guy will call again.... just seeing the text come through is enough to bring a smile sometimes. This one is Joan Blondell's...
Sometimes, that's all it takes to get a win. A smile....and GO BLUE!
